Anav and Mona experience the difficulties and heartaches that violence brings amidst the Palestinian-Israeli conflict everyday.
Mona, a Palestinian, resides in the Northern Gaza Strip, currently controlled by the militant Hamas. Having studied English Literature at university, she works as a translator. Both her grandfather and younger brother were killed as a result of Israeli violence.
Paula Radcliffe, the women’s marathon world record holder, knows that hard work and perseverance pay off.
This British running superstar was not always setting records on the race course, however.
After a strong start to her running career including a win at the 1992 Junior World Cross Country and a 7th place ranking at the 1993 World Championships, she ran into barriers that kept her from reaching her desired success.
After addressing her weaknesses and working diligently, she came back confidently prepared.
In 2002 she smashed record after record and ended her blisteringly hard, but ultimately rewarding, season by setting the women’s marathon world record finishing in a time of 2:17.18.
In addition to her running career, Paula is married to Gary Lough with whom she recently had a daughter, Isla.
Paula’s current sights are set on the upcoming 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Celebrating 97 Years of Womanhood
Alright, so technically you haven't quite reached that age where people are calling you "ma'am" or "miss"...you may not have even reached an age of double digits. But, that doesn't mean that one day you too won't have an opportunity to proclaim "I'm a woman and proud of it!". Why not start celebrating today?!
Every year, for the past 97 years, International Women's Day has recognized and appreciated women for their talents, diversity, and triumphs.
Amina Yaser Said, 18, and Sarah Yaser Said, 17, were two girls growing up in Texas. Like other girls their age, Amina and Sarah were testing their waters: feeling out their personal style, engaging in budding relationships with young men, and participating in school-related extra-curricular activities. Amina and Sarah, like other girls their age and in their community, were coming into their own. Then, in a tragic episode of events, it all ended.

Okay girls. Here's a question. Ready? Who is Gloria Steinem?...Give up? According to Karen Von Hahn of The Globe and Mail newspaper, if you don't know the answer, then you cannot be a true feminist of the modern-day era. As Jessica Valenti, editor of the well-known feminist blog, feministing, remarks in a witty post (with biting undertones): "Pack up your things, ladies; that's proof enough for me!"
Perhaps you have recently seen one of Hollywood's latest blockbusters (and Oscar nominees) , Juno, a film touching heavily on the subject of teenage pregency. Or maybe you have been exposed to the media hoopla surrounding 16-year-old actress Jamie Lynn Spears (yes, Britney's little sis!), who recently announced her pregnancy. Either way, everyone seems to be talking about teenage sex these days...
The Frightening Reality of Body Bashing
There is no doubt that there is growing a demographic of girls who are struggling with poor body image and an ongoing desire to change something, or many things, about their physical appearance. With an infiltration of perfected, airbrushed media images and a sea of size two teen queens, it can be difficult to celebrate beauty that comes in all shapes and sizes. In her new book, Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters: The Frightening New Normalcy of Hating Your Body, author Courtney E. Martin analyzes the "skinny culture" and makes an excellent case for why accepting and loving her body may be the healthiest thing a girl can do for herself!

Young boys and girls around the world want to share their lives with the girls in Rwanda. Here are some of their letters:
When we think about Rwanda, we always have horrific images of the 1994 genocide, of people living poverty-stricken lives and young women with shattered dreams.
On the contrary, the young women of Rwanda are dynamic, filled with enthusiasm, full of ambition, brimming with ideas and burning with a desire to make a difference.
They are go-getters who dream big dreams.
The Dutch Labour Party, one of the major political parties in The Netherlands, has proposed that the government impose fines on highly educated women that choose to leave the labour force in order to care for family memebers, reported Expatica on March 22. According to its sponsers, the proposal is an attempt to recover the cost of education to the state becasue ''you should not be allowed to throw away that knowledge unpunished,'' a party spokesperson said.
Remember: 'being yourself is the best that you can be...'
Rwanda needs women like Emertha.
Emertha is 28 years old. She is Rwandan. When she was 16, nearly one million people died in her country in just 100 days. This atrocity, as unimaginable as it is, affected each and every family and is still in the minds and hearts of the Rwandan people, as they still struggle to overcome the traumatic experiences of this genocide. Emertha is a strong young woman today. In February 2006 we invited her to Vienna, Austria, as a representative of our "Fit for Leadership"- project in Rwanda. She is also part of the football project "Kicking for Reconciliation" (see "Sports" for more information on that).
How a south Indian village girl became empowered.
On the south Indian Coromandel coast most people are dedicated to fishing. Life is very traditional and for young girls it is often hard to find their own way and shape their own lives. Amala, 17 years old, is participating in a Women without Borders driving training programme. Together with others she has learned to drive a 3-wheeler. Read about Amala´s life - her problems, her wishes and fears.
Since the country´s Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iranian women have not been allowed to attend soccer matches, and they were generally banned from the stadiums.
India. Snake charmers. A billion people. Spices. But there is more to the India of the 21st century. Here is a different face of India, the face of the urban, elite, privileged youth. See what they are thinking, the kind of problems they face, their ambitions etc....
This is an account of an Indian girl in Austria, her experiences, excitement and disillusionment.
A Fair Share in Household Matters May Just Save Europe from Experiencing a Demographic Tragedy
Geographers are alarmed at predictions of future demographic trends - many believe that pro-natal policies, immigration, and best-practice models may not do the job in raising fertility levels for much longer. Women with careers have become scapegoats for researchers and people around the world, claiming that their ambitions are the flaws getting in between them and pregnancy. If men take on an equal share in household matters, women are bound to be more enthusiastic about giving birth to children and exceeding the replacement rate of 2.1 babies per mother ...
