Following the Atom's Tracks: Young Whiz Girl Writes Physics Book
Silvia Arroyo Camejo is a Supernova in Science
Berlin – While some girls are crazy about fashion, boys and music, Silvia Arroyo Camejo is nuts about the world of quarks and atoms. "I want to recognize the structure in order to get to know how nature functions. I want to know how this wonderful world we live in works,” writes the 20 year old in the preface of her book, Skurrile Quantenwelt (In English: Bizzare Quantum World). Shortly before her high school graduation, she finished this book on quantum physics which contains a whopping 250 pages!
At the tender age of twelve, she already started to ask questions about the cosmos, the Big Bang theory and the black hole. Soon after, her questions couldn't be answered anymore by her father, a surgeon, or her mother, a language teacher. So she started to investigate on her own and read everything she could get her hands on. With each answer she found, new questions arose. This is how Silvia Arroyo Camejo found her way - step by step, answer by answer - through the microcosmos. “It was a pity that I couldn't talk to anybody about it," she remembers.
At 17, she decided to document her new knowledge by writing a book. Aside from her work on quantum physics, she plans to write another one on elementary particles and on cosmology. Every afternoon after school, she sits down at her computer and writes down her new findings. “I wrote the book for myself," says the young author, who also plays the violin – very well. In fact, she won two first prizes at a national music contest. She also enjoys going to the movies with friends and walking her labrador, Lizzy, in the forest.
When she started writing, she didn't plan to publish it. But when she finished, she sent her work to a renowned quantum physician, Hans Dieter Zeh, and asked him for his opinion. He immediately recommended the book to a publisher who readily published the book. What an amazing success for a young lady!
Have you ever desired to write a book and get published? What are you waiting for? Grab a pen and start writing! Who knows, you might be the next girl we write about on this website....
