Mind Her Business

At the age of 18, the now 22-year-old Karoli Hendriks owned her first enterprise. Since then, her enterprise has been growing. The young Estonian is now exporting her products to Switzerland. Moreover, in the evenings, she studies economics and also finds the time to participate in the community council.

In times of high unemployment rates, we need people like Karoli who create their own jobs and even provide others with work.
Karoli Hendriks was not aware of the economic situation in Europe when she, together with some schoolmates, started to write their own business plan. „That's exactly what made us successful“, she affirms, “we were encouraged by everybody and we didn't have anything to lose."

Today, she is convinced that early encounters with business encourage innovative potentials and entrepreneurial spirit. That is one reason why she is involved in politics. Particularly, she wants to change the Estonian educational system.

Karoli was lucky. At her school, the organisation “Junior Achievement – Young Enterprise,” inspired by the private sector, gave her practical advice. All she needed was a business idea. Karoli and her friends combined usefulness and necessity with fashion and chic. They developed trendy reflectors for kids to put on their school bags, trousers and jackets. Nowadays, they also sell hats, scarves and gloves. These items are made of a special kind of wool which glows in the dark – a best-seller in Estonia.

Be like Karoli! Be inspired to develop your own business ideas!
